It is a day traditionally observed with mourning and fasting in commemoration of the destruction of both Solomon's Temple and the Second Temple. The fast is observed from Friday sunrise to sunset.  While it is clear why we fast in remembrance of the day that the Temple was destroyed, it raises a question.
