Before Jacob's death, he blessed the two sons of Joseph. However, Jacob gave the blessing of the firstborn to the younger son instead of giving it to the elder son. There is a lesson in trust in this passage that may have touched Jacob's conscience.

On his deathbed, Joseph instructed his brothers, that after his death, they should take his bones back to the Promised Land for burial. This request may sound unusual in modern day Western thinking, but Joseph's words are a source of hope for parents.
